Svu when was olivia assaulted

Over the course of Seasons 10 and 11, we watch Benson struggle with being a victim of sexual assault herself and come to terms with her PTSD. But things get much worse for Olivia at the end of Season 14, when she is kidnapped by serial rapist and murderer William Lewis. Over the course of a couple of episodes, we watch as William drugs Olivia and takes her with him to witness the rapes and tortures of several women.

It's an absolutely insane sequence of episodes that we recommend watching with the lights on! While he beats, tortures, and burns Olivia while holding her hostage over the course of four days, Olivia manages to break free and handcuff William just at the moment where he is about to rape her, then beats him almost to death with an iron bed rod.

Though she returns to work after a Cragen-mandated leave, Olivia is deeply traumatized by William Lewis, something she still carries with her today. During William's trial, she lies under oath saying that she only beat him because he lunged at her, and while he is ultimately convicted of kidnapping and assaulting a police officer, the members of the jury express doubts about Benson's story and acquit him of attempted rape. Guess who's waiting for her, sticking a pistol under her chin?

Here's what Hargitay had to say about all the SaveBenson hoopla. I mentally prepared myself for the fact that Benson would be irrevocably changed by what her assailant had in store for her, and how she's going to get through it. I also found myself wanting to impart some Bensonian wisdom on my favorite TV personality: "You are not to blame.

My question to the writers of SVU is, why not? Were writers afraid that viewers might view this "wonder woman" her shrink dons this title on her in the season premiere, albeit to question Benson's own self-perception differently if she were to be violated in such a way? Were the writers fearful that fans like myself might view Benson as "weak" if she were sexually violated?

Doesn't this go against everything Olivia Benson stands for: changing the way women and men see victims of rape? Duct taped and handcuffed to an old fashioned iron framed bed, Benson tries to a number of strategies with her assailant, William Lewis played by Pablo Schreiber of Orange Is The New Black.

We see Detective Benson as a model officer of the law. She is the person we would want to find in a police station if, God forbid, we ever had to report a sexual assault.

But there have been times when Detective Benson has utterly failed the people she was supposed to protect. She has disregarded the wishes of victims, abused her power, and allowed people to get hurt due to her gross negligence. In season 5, episode 9, Detective Benson realizes that a woman she dismissed several years ago because she was drunk was actually telling the truth about being held captive in a dungeon and raped repeatedly. What makes matters even worse is that after Benson dismissed the victim, the perpetrator went on to abduct and rape at least a dozen more women.

Benson regrets her blunder so deeply that she almost quits. In season 3, episode 16, Detective Stabler convinces Detective Benson to help him find a year-old rape victim who did not want to file a report.

After the detectives questioned at her school, her rapist tossed her down a flight of stairs and broke her arm. In season 8, episode 1, Detective Benson encounters a rape victim who has been brutalized but does not want to press charges or have a medical exam. Benson follows the victim to her apartment—which is already way out of line—and pleads with her to come back to the hospital and get a rape kit done.

When the victim refuses, Benson actually sneaks into her bedroom and steals her underwear. Even if that stranger is trying to help you, that kind of intrusion can cause further trauma. In season 8, episode 16, Detectives Benson and Stabler are engaged in a car chase with a rapist who has been attacking men around the city. But Benson is distracted by a phone call from the girlfriend of her newly discovered brother. After Benson fails to turn down the correct street, the perpetrator gets away.

It is clear that the victim has lost faith in the NYPD, and he refuses to testify against his attacker. In season 11, episode 9, Detective Benson is framed for murder. Granted, Benson did not actually arrange for Harrison to be raped. But she admits that she never should have said those things to him. A detective who aims to bring rapists to justice should not encourage or tolerate prison rape.

Criminals deserve to do their time. To add injury to insult, Benson makes the same prison rape threat against another perp in another episode, and then beats the guy up. It's episode 19 of season 8 when Detective Benson absolutely loses her shit in an interrogation.

First, she slaps the guy clean across his face. Then she says, "Those big boys in prison are gonna love your pussy pervert ass up there. Just outside of the courtroom, however, a shock was waiting for both Olivia and Burton: a woman accusing Burton of assaulting her years prior.

Though the statute of limitations had passed on her case, a betrayed Olivia had her detectives look into Burton's past.

What they found was a history of him using his prominent position to prey on mostly younger women — "an old school player," said Amanda Rollins Kelli Giddish — though nothing else criminal surfaced. Nick, meanwhile, began to see that Burton used him and his background in DNA to get close to Olivia again. So I know that his wanting to free Ian Ridley is sincere. Or is this about his career, his podcast? Liv, I'm angry right now," Nick argued, later adding, "I'm sorry I walked him back into your life.

He was 21? My daughter's We were in love.
