In most cases, Microsoft will recognize that your computer had Windows 10 previously installed and automatically activate.
Windows 7 is no longer supported and has security risks associated with it which will never be patched. We started turning up DSL on top of dial tone with windows 95, it was very difficult. In those days computers were not equipped with network cards much less drivers what was a driver anyway …No one hardly mentions Windows NT, a followup from Millennium ME I think?
Well…most of the time! NT had all the drivers, just reboot and they installed! I jumped from to XP to 7 to Change is inevitable, how many folks still own a Ford Edsel? I do Win 7 pro on my laptop and I can hardly navigate the interface. Is there any way to make using Win 10 easy. Please please I just have to. The most visible difference to most users not power users between Windows 7 and Windows 10 as well as Windows 8.
Like many other longtime computer users, the new Start menu did not appeal to me — it was bloated and not very efficient. With that excuse out of the way, readers should know that Windows 10 is a far more efficient, user-friendly, and secure OS than Windows 7. They fear the unknown. So, yes, I am sick and tired of people who just repeat the unwarranted criticism of new versions of Windows. I concur that the Start10 applet is a solid choice if one desires the old start menu. So the only reason I can think of for switching to Windows 10 is that eventually Microsoft will stop supporting it.
Thanks for pointing me to Classic Start. Was offered a free upgrade to 10 some time ago and tried a dozen times. Read everything on the MS site to prepare for the upgrade and followed directions, new drivers, uninstalling conflicts, etc. Returning to previous version. What is left out of this discussion is the fact that win10 is uncontrollable — it does what it wants, when it wants, with no hint what it does and why.
Which is a classical description of malware. The question if there is today any alternative I have not seen addressed anywhere so far, so staying with the less intrusive and more controllable version is not such a bad idea.

Hi, First of all, confirm if your computer processor is 32 or 64 bits. If it's 32 bits, then you have no choice : you must install Windows 8 bits.
If it's 64 bits, then you can choose either bits or bits. Hi Dhruv, See there is no visible difference between windows 32 bit or 64 bit of any windows version. And other programs like Start Menu 8 either cost money, push extra add-ons, or both. Just look at this default install of Start Menu Clicking on any of those top four options will install programs immediately. With Windows 10, Microsoft finally brought back the Start Menu.
And more importantly, you can cut out all the tiles and get a look very close to Windows 7 if you prefer. Instead of using the separate desktop view, apps are maximized and take up the entire screen. The best thing to do was to optimize Windows 8. Microsoft finally solved the problem in Windows 10 by dumping the Start Screen and putting the emphasis back on the desktop.
And while there are again programs to bypass this behavior on Windows 8, just like the Start Screen apps, they either cost money, come with extras, or both.
Windows 10 is far more secure than any version of Windows that came before it. While we have complained about the unnecessary features Microsoft has added, security has been a top priority.
These features lock down the OS and make it harder to infect and hijack your system. End of extended support is coming, and while this will hit Windows 7 sooner, after January Windows 8. And just like Windows 7, mainstream support has already ended.
