Can't find your answer? In answer to nik79udk. Hi Nikki, not sure where you got that nugget of misinformation from but its totally inaccurate. You need to contact your LA and enquire about childminder registration sessions. Many LA's do ask you to do some market research first now to see if there is a demand in your area.

As a minder you will be self employed and you will set your own terms and conditions so in among you setting up your provision you will need to develop a 'business head' as well. I'm a childminder and love my job. I didnt go into it for the money,it gave me a chance to have my own business, be my own boss, work with children and be able to pick up my own two children from school.

Now my own two are old enough to take themselves to school I couldn't rely on my job to pay the mortgage, hubbies job does this as he has a regular income. Sometimes I'm busy other times work is slow and it can be very up and down. I work 50hrs a week and by the end of it I am absolutely knackered. But I love working with children.. I don't have sick pay, holiday pay or a pension I do get to make my own decisions and the money I earn goes towards holidays and extra things for my family.

A lot of people think it enables you to spend more time with your own children I spend less time with my own two because I'm so busy with the mindees. Bernadette Thomas. I have gained a degree and various other courses throughout my career, and have letters after my name but the best part was the pleasure the children showed me, running into my arms, as I returned in September after being closed for 6 mths. Best career ever. Report abuse. Hi I have been a reg Ofsted Childminder for over 14 years. I follow the early years foundation requirements and do a very good job. The children have around me learn so much through play and some are getting ready for school.
